We’re looking for passionate and dedicated Learning Mentors to join specialist education provisions across Plymouth. You’ll be supporting children and young people aged 4–19 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and complex learning challenges. This is a highly rewarding opportunity to make a lasting difference and helping students re-engage with learning, build confidence and achieve personal and academic progress.

Learning Mentor
📍 Location: Plymouth (vacancies across three sites – Primary, Secondary & SEMH)
📅 Contract: Agency – Term Time Only (potential to move into a permanent role)
💰 Pay: £14.15 per hour (paid via agency)

About the Role
We’re currently recruiting passionate and dedicated Learning Mentors to work across specialist education provisions in Plymouth, supporting children and young people aged 4–19 with a range of Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) and complex learning needs.
This is a rewarding opportunity to make a real difference, providing one-to-one and small group support to learners who are currently outside mainstream education.
As a Learning Mentor, you will:
  • Build strong, positive relationships with students, supporting their emotional, social, and academic development.
  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff to deliver individual learning and behaviour support plans.
  • Help create a trauma-informed, inclusive learning environment that promotes stability and progress.
  • Provide consistent, calm, and engaging support to help learners overcome barriers and achieve their goals.

About You
  • Passionate about working with children and young people, particularly those with SEMH or behavioural challenges.
  • Patient, resilient, and empathetic, with excellent communication skills.
  • Confident working both independently and as part of a supportive team.
  • Committed to helping young people rebuild confidence and achieve their full potential.

Requirements
  • Full-time availability (Monday–Friday, 8:30am–3:30pm, term time only)
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle (required for outreach work)
